HUMBLE BRAGGING

I have noticed that as an expression of personal piety, a lot of people like to tell others that God spoke to them or that God lead them. This is such a subjective phrase that I never know what they mean. And I often think it is a way to  humbly brag about the depth of our relationship with God.

I realize there may be times when this is appropriate but I think, for the most part, this falls under the words of Jesus, who admonished us:

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. (Matt. 6:5-6 ESV)

Perhaps it is best that we leave our communications with God in our prayer room, and let God do his work. Let all praise be directed to Christ and not to ourselves.
