Several years ago, our church declared a month long celebration of creativity. We called it Christ and Creativity month. I had remembered reading Edith Schaeffer’s comment that because of our position in Christ, Christians should be creative because we want to imitate God. She talked about doing simple things like arranging flowers and simple decorations in one’s home. Following that pattern, we invited church members to bring examples of their creativity. There were all kinds of examples ranging from woodwork, to sewing, to photography. I hope this site can be something like our Christ and Creativity month. I originally wanted to do something for my daughter, Jessica Bryan, so that we could allow her music to be heard on the internet. But I thought, why stop there? In our church we have several talented people. Why not a place where they can share their abilities? And why stop with music, some may want to write stories or display photography or other art forms. Only time will tell if that can be done. In the mean time, I have placed a flash player and made available ten songs that Jessica sings. She wrote most of the songs. Obviously she did not write the lyrics and music of My Lord is with Me all the Time or Amazing Grace. She did not write the words to A Better Resurrection (Christina Rossetti) or Close to Thee (Fanny J. Crosby)but she wrote the music. The rest of the songs she wrote the music and the lyrics or used Scripture. Both Jessica and her husband Dave, hold the Bachelor of Music degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Both currently teach under graduate courses at SLU and both teach at a local community school. Dave is a very talented classical guitarist. And both are working on the Master of Music degree. Currently Jessica leads the music in our church. Dave is part of a guitar quartet. Perhaps we will have some of their music on the site one of these days. You can find out more about her at http://www.myspace.com/jessicabryan1 You will also find a link to the music of Don Aycock. Don is a man of many talents. Click on his link to find out more. |
