Who Rules the Church by Gerald P. Cowen is a very good book on the nature of the church. He is a Baptist and writes from a Biblical perspectiv Cowen is a New Testament Scholar and he makes his argument from Scripture before any appeal to tradition. Cowen makes a very strong case for Elder/Pastor lead, congregational rule church as basic Baptist polity. It is well worth a reading in a day that seems very confused about the nature of the Church.
